This is truly a time of new beginnings. The New Moon at 11° Aries 39" brings us to the edge of action just like the Fool in the Tarot standing over the cliff of manifestation. Many of us stand frozen in fear waiting to jump. Traditionally the first new moon in April is a time for hope and blessings. Many of us seem to be surrounded by dread when we turn on the TV and get our dose of the shockingly, awful horrors in Iraq. Many of us refuse to be part of the media's latest ratings coup with armchair generals, embedded journalists cheering the spilling of blood and guts in an unwanted,unjust war. In this chart there clearly is hope with the Sun and Moon trine Jupiter at 8° Leo 04" - Jupiter is almost stationary and ready to go direct on April 3rd giving a boost to our hearts and minds. Be aware that the Jupiter opposition to Neptune is still in play and will cause much confusion and illusion till after it culminates in exact aspect on June 4th ,2003. This new moon is calling us to become spiritual warriors with the ruling planet of Aries conjunct Chiron (the wounded healer) almost exact at 17° Capricorn, which rules the corporate healing process. There has never been a better time to be like Chiron the Centaur and acknowledge the evil potential in one-self, so that we may feel sympathy for the evil person (whether it be Bush or Saddam). This is a time for one to call on the innate Aries courage, strength and energy allowing us to become spiritual activists and step forward in conscience deed, by voting and organizing, to stop harm caused by others.

During the last Full Moon on 3/18/03 we experienced a Grand Cross of mutability and indecision. We went within and took stock of our hearts and beliefs. Just two short weeks ago and just 24 hours before war was officially declared. At that time we were held in the arms of all four elements - a balancing act. the Moon in (Virgo/earth) for the physical, the Sun in (Pisces/water) for emotionl, Saturn which represented by mental (Gemini/air), and Pluto in (Sagittarius/fire)the spiritiual. Thus Saturn and Pluto both squared the Full Moon in Virgo and Sun in Pisces;which created a grand cross, involving four squares as well as the two oppositions. Now on the new moon is a time for action with (8) planets, asteroids and points in cardinal signs especially Sun,Moon, Mercury in Aries and Mars in Capricorn. Both Mars in Capricron and Venus in Pisces are in an exalted position meaining a sign where a planet functions at optimum health. Our minds are ready for a great adventure with Mercury in Aries, thinking and moving fast, yet we stand on the brink of another change in a few days. On April 5th, Mercury the messenger enters Taurus to highlight solid values, concrete ideas and practical perspectives as we move forward create our own visions.

Since the full moon on March 18th, many of the difficult aspects have begun separating to allow our innocent and genuine selves to step forth. Pluto has retrograde on March 23 to counteract the legacy of the two full powerful Saturn-Pluto oppositions on Aug 5, 2001 and May 25 2002 - both planets are now moving away from difficult aspect. These earth shattering oppositions coincided with the "War Against Terrorism", and the "Terrorist Attack on America and by America." along with a shattered economic recovery. To a great degree the attacks of September 11, 2001 and the US government response, have reflected the core nature of Saturn and Pluto where force against authority prevails and usually neither side wants to bend. Our growing peace movement with non-violent demonstrations has blossomed and growen stronger with Venus conjuncting Uranus into Pisces stimulating the process of mutual reception:: Neptune, planet of idealism and ruler of Pisces stays in Aquarius till April 4th, 2011 and Uranus planet of genius and invention, and ruler of Aquarius entered Pisces on March 11, 2003 staying till March 10th, 2011 which is joining force with the Spiritual Warrior on this new moon to add the tempering of serenity and contemplation.

The Sabian symbol for this new moon is calculated at 12° Aries. Even though the Sun and Moon are 11°Aries39", if the position of the planet is at least one minute over an even degree,
read the Sabian symbol for the next higher degree. The Sabian symbol for 12° Aries was described by Dane Rudhyar ( born an Aries Sun with Pisces Moon) in his bookAn Astrological Mandala: The Cycle of Transformations and Its 360 Symbolic Phases, So at 12° Aries is "A triangularly shaped flight of wild geese; an idealistic reliance upon a mental image of universal order." This is a stirring image invoking the power of instinct that measures the power of nature in all her glory. Also we should note the position of the geese that lead alternates among the flock, evoking the thought that we all need to work together, putting egos aside. We humans also are an integral part of Hathor's sound of instincts and must give flight to our unbridled imagination symbolized by Uranus in Pisces. This New Moon will compel us to change our perspectives and demand that we act on what we have learned in the last three months. Just a few weeks ago with the Leo Full Moon Uranus (planet of unexpected changes) crossed exact degree of our nation's moon at 27° Aquarius. which kindled a spirit of healthy rebellion among the nations populace. On April 1st, both the Sun/Moon will join at 11°Aries39" to move towards a square to the nation's Sun at 13° Cancer 19"! In astrology squares (90° aspects) tend to both challenge and motivate change from within and without leading to a possible upheavel of this entire administration especially when when Saturn enters Cancer and reaches 13° on October 23rd. 2003.

I calculated this chart for San Jose, CA using the Placidus house system, which puts the authority of Saturn in Gemini right in the middle of the 12th House with a close sextile to Mercury in Aries at Mid Heaven. Saturn in the 12th indicates strong inner discipline coupled with a sense of doubt and a need to serve humanity. In this case we are all facing nagging doubts due to the horrors of an unjust war. Also we are in the midst of an epidemic with the growing number of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) cases reported daily. Saturn in Gemini is indicative of respiratory illness. We absolutely need the help of this sextile to mercury we will become pioneers of compassion to heal wounds within our own communities represented by the tenth house. With the new moon set for the South Bay, we can all become spiritual warriors by bringing the light of peace into the multi-ethic peoples especially the Arab and Islamic groups that worship and share our place on the planet. As the Lakota Indians say, Mitakuye oyasin: "All beings are my relatives." Let us pray for all our relations throughout the world.
