NY Times: Large Area Of Japan To Be Declared Indefinitely Uninhabitable, Perhaps For Decades In a deceitful article that downplays the extent and severity of the radiation contamination, the NY Times has announced that Japan is expected officially declare a large area of Japan surrounding Fukushima indefinitely uninhabitable, perhaps for decades.
According to the report from the New York Times, the government of Japan is expected to make the official announcement later today which will declare a large area of land within the 12 mile evacuation zone around the Fukushima nuclear power plant uninhabitable for an indefinite period of time.
The announcement comes following the release of a government sponsored survey that found radiation levels up to .5 sieverts (500 millisieverts) per year within the 12 mile evacuation zone.

As reported previously, a new huge oil slick has been found at the site of the BP Gulf Oil Spill well. BP and the Coast Guard responded to those reports as baseless, asserting there was absolutely no merit to claims that the Macondo well was leaking again or that there was even an oil slick at the site of well.
The Alabama Register confirms that BP and the Coast Guard are lying about oil leaking from the Macondo well.
They traveled to the well site and collected photos and videos of the oil leaking to the surface from the site of the Macondo well.
They also took samples of the oil from the water and had the samples analyzed.

On Thursday, state officials ordered tourists to pack up the sand toys and abandon the beach rentals. Residents have been asked to find a safe spot farther inland as well.

Three governors declared states of emergency Thursday as Hurricane Irene threatened to wreak havoc along the United States' Eastern Seaboard.
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie declared emergencies for their states, while North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue declared a state of emergency in counties east of Interstate 95. The emergency declarations allow states to free funds and prepare resources that may be needed.
If Irene continues along its current track, "from a flooding perspective, this could be a hundred-year event," Christie said. He encouraged voluntary evacuations to begin immediately. "Anybody who is on a barrier island should go," he said, adding that on Friday people along the beaches should start thinking about moving to higher ground.

Well before any humans ducked beneath desks or sought shelter in doorways on Tuesday, wildlife at the National Zoo started to react to the oncoming earthquake.
In the small mammal house, the red-ruffed lemurs started barking an alarm call, 15 minutes before the shift along the Central Virginia Seismic Zone caused Richter scales to leap at 1:51 p.m. However, the lemur's housemates, the howler monkeys, were not as keen. They only started making noise after the zoo started shaking.
"Animals we know from experimental studies, can hear above and below our range of hearing, that's part of their extra-sensory abilities," said Don Moore, associate director of animal care at the zoo.

A magnitude-5.9 earthquake struck Virginia at about 1:50 p.m. (EDT), the U.S. Geological Survey reported Tuesday. Tremors were felt in New York, Massachusetts, Ohio, Tennessee and the Carolinas.

USGS: Colorado experiences largest quake in more than 40 years A moderate 5.3-magnitude earthquake that rattled southern Colorado early Tuesday morning was the largest to hit the state in more than 40 years, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake's epicenter was seven miles southwest of Cokedale, and 180 miles south of Denver. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
A dispatcher at the sheriff's office in Las Animas County, which includes Cokedale, said the quake lasted almost 30 seconds. The office received reports of rocks falling on a highway and of some structure damage.
It was the largest in a series of earthquakes that struck the area. As of 5 a.m. local time (7 a.m. ET), the USGS reported seven quakes centered just south of Cokedale since midnight.
