Quake illustrates force of plate movement The powerful earthquake that rocked the seabed off the Northern California coast near Eureka on Saturday underscores the complexity of seismic dangers within the Earth's crust, and is likely to be followed by a large aftershock this week - but it is not expected to exceed the 6.5 magnitude of the temblor that was felt as far away as Reno, scientists said Sunday.

Ridge Collapse Leaves Large Crater in Costa Rica Volcano
SAN JOSE – Costa Rican vulcanologists inspected the Turrialba volcano and discovered that the ridge separating two new craters formed after an eruption of ash this week had collapsed, leaving a large crater 65 meters (213 feet) in diameter.
Mauricio Mora, vulcanologist of the National Seismological Network, told a press conference Friday that this was “a normal morphological change since gas emissions erode the walls of the crater, but that does not mean that activity is building up inside the volcano.”
The formation of a new crater inside the Turrialba volcano, located in the eastern part of the country, has caused ash discharges since Tuesday.

Montrealer Humberto Dramasino witnessed the sight as he was driving home in the city's St-Laurent district around (07.01.2010) 7:30 p.m. "I saw a fireball just below the clouds," Dramasino said. "It was losing pieces in the air while it was flying and it was very, very fast." The spectacle lasted no more than a few seconds, Dramasino said. "Meteors happen every night, they tend to be about the size of a grain of sand though," he said. "When you see something that looks like a ball that seems to be on fire, with smoke trailing behind it — those tend to be much larger like a baseball, basketball size, even the size of a tricycle. Newark Liberty Airport in Lockdown Over Security Breach
Flights out of one terminal at Newark Liberty International Airport were temporarily halted Sunday night as officials investigated a possible security breach.
Officials took the action after a man was observed walking the wrong way down the exit lane between the secured, or “sterile,” area and the public area at around 5:20 p.m.
The Transportation Security Administration initially responded by stopping screening. But about two and a half hours later, the T.S.A. ordered all passengers on the sterile side to move back to the public side for rescreening.
As of 8:40 p.m. Sunday, security was unable to locate that individual in the terminal.

Because the charges are being dismissed, on what will be widely viewed as a technicality, there will be no trial and thus the central issue, whether the Blackwater guards were innocent or guilty of killing unarmed civilians will never be examined.
