Sanity and certainty are apt to continue in short supply for financial markets this week. Mercury is still retrograde, so basic chart patterns, technical indicators, and support-resistance zones are apt to be unreliable. The United States dropped an atomic bomb on the city in August, 1945, near the end of the Second World War.
By the end of the year, about 140,000 deaths in Hiroshima were attributed to the bomb, including people killed in the explosion and later due to radiation and injuries.

Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan Reportedly Kills Members of SEAL Team 6 (same unit involved in Osama bin Laden's death ) KABUL, Afghanistan -- Insurgents shot down a U.S. military helicopter during fighting in eastern Afghanistan, killing 30 Americans, most of them belonging to the same elite unit as the Navy SEALs who killed Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, U.S. officials said Saturday. It was the deadliest single loss for American forces in the decade-old war against the Taliban.
One current and one former U.S. official said that the dead included 25 Navy SEALs from SEAL Team Six, the unit that carried out the raid in Pakistan in May that killed bin Laden. They were being flown by a crew of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because families are still being notified.
A total number of 38 people died in the crash, killing 7 Afghans and one interpreter.
None of those killed in the crash is believed to have been part of the SEALs mission that killed bin Laden, but they were from the same unit as the bin Laden team.
"We don't believe that any of the special operators who were killed were involved in the bin Laden operation," a senior U.S. military official told Fox News.

S&P downgrades U.S. debt for first time in history WASHINGTON --The United States has lost its coveted top AAA credit rating. Credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s on Friday downgraded the nation’s rating for the first time since the U.S. won the top ranking in 1917. The move came after Congress haggled over budget cuts and the nation’s borrowing limit — and failed to cut enough government spending to satisfy S&P. The issue has contributed to convulsions in financial markets.
The drop in the rating by one notch to AA-plus was expected. The three main credit agencies, which also include Moody’s Investor Service and Fitch, had warned during the budget fight that if Congress did not cut spending far enough, the country faced a downgrade. S&P said that it is making the move because the deficit reduction plan passed by Congress on Tuesday did not go far enough to stabilize the country’s debt situation. Moody’s said Friday it was keeping its AAA rating on the nation’s debt, but that it might still lower it.

Police rescue woman, child from German pig swarm BERLIN—Police in northern Germany say they rescued a woman and her 2-year-old child whose car was swarmed — by a herd of pigs.
Police said the woman called them Friday afternoon from outside the tiny village of Wanderup, near the Danish border. She said “20 relatively large hip-high pigs” had surrounded her VW Golf after she had driven off the road into a field.
She told them they had formed such a tight circle and were behaving so aggressively that she couldn’t flee the car.
Police say they were able to free the woman and her child without incident.

America's 10 Sickest Housing Markets For three years, the real estate market has been going in one direction — primarily down. Some areas, however, have begun to recover. Recent S&P/Case-Shiller data show that among the top 20 housing markets in the U.S., 18 had very modest improvements in sales prices during May. Others, like Washington and Boston, have began to at least stabilize from a year ago.
Few markets, however, can match Washington and Boston. Robert Shiller has been stating that home prices could fall another 10% in the next year. Inventories in some major metropolitan areas would take years of sales to get back to 2005 levels. Then, the normal inventory of homes for sale was replaced on average every six months and it was unusual for a house to be on the market for a year. Foreclosure rates remain high and only the robo-signing scandal has slowed the process. Once this is resolved, economists fear the market will be flooded with even more vacant, unsold homes.
24/7 Wall St. has taken a new look at the housing market to find the very weakest cities by identifying those with the highest homeowner vacancy rates and rental vacancy rates. These are markets where demand has clearly collapsed. These are cities where the requirement for living space has dropped well below the national average. Further, vacancy rates of many cities were stable during the recession, but accelerated sharply higher in the last year. Similarly, housing prices in several of these markets have decreased at a faster rate in the last three quarters than during the recession. These cities, like Detroit, St. Louis, Dayton, and Atlanta, also tend to be larger and older among the top 75 metropolitan areas. Their economies were damaged long before the recession.

Jury Takes Just 3 Hours to Convict Polygamist Warren Jeffs in Trial Jeffs, 55, was found guilty by a west Texas jury also for aggravated child sexual assault for his “spiritual marriages” and sexual encounters with girls aged just 12 and 14.
The spiritual leader of the condemned Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints now faces up to 119 years in prison.
The jury took just three hours in deliberation to return with its guilty verdict, and the trial will now move to sentencing.

US borrowing tops 100% of GDP: Treasury US debt shot up $238 billion to reach 100 percent of gross domestic project after the government's debt ceiling was lifted, Treasury figures showed Wednesday.
Treasury borrowing jumped Tuesday, the data showed, immediately after President Barack Obama signed into law an increase in the debt ceiling as the country's spending commitments reached a breaking point and it threatened to default on its debt.
The new borrowing took total public debt to $14.58 trillion, over end-2010 GDP of $14.53 trillion, and putting it in a league with highly indebted countries like Italy and Belgium.

Fear Hits the Markets: Wall St slide continues; Dow plunges 400 points
NEW YORK - The Dow Jones industrial average plunged as many as 500 points, erasing its gains for the year, as investors grew more worried about economic weakness in the U.S. and Europe.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3.7 percent, bringing it 11 percent below its recent high of 1,363 reached on April 29. A decline of 10 percent or more is considered to be a market correction. The Dow Jones industrial average is now down more than 1,200 points from July 21.
Oil fell 6 percent to $87 a barrel on worries demand will fall because of the slowing economy. Oil had traded over $100 as recently as June 9. The yield on the two-year Treasury note hit a record low as investors sought out relatively stable investments.

Virginia Tech On Lock Down – Gunman Alert On August 4, 2011, Virginia Tech officials decided to lock down the campus after three students who were attending a summer camp reported that they saw a man who might be carrying a gun. University officials carried out a prompt response to avoid another shooting incident inside the campus. At 9:37 a.m., the university issued an alert through its website. School officials advised employees and students to stay inside. Larry Hincker, spokesman for the university, revealed that the campus alert is still in effect. He also advised people to stay indoors.

According to the children, the man was walking near the volleyball courts holding a handgun. Police checked the area but they did not see a man who matched the description given by the children. Visual examination determined the vans were separate and unique from trucks used by janitorial services, including different colors and devoid of markings. More curious, all the janitorial trucks had pulled out of the Towers by about 2:30 a.m—about half an hour before the second set of vans arrived.
According to my high-level State Department source with a top security clearance, who disclosed the unusual nightly activity, no vans matching that description had entered the World Trade Center at such an hour in any of the weeks or months prior to that date. It was a unique event.
Security cameras caught the vans leaving the Towers at approximately 5 a.m—before the first wave of AAA personality types on Wall Street, driving Mercedes and BMWs, arrived to track the markets.
For all the public's ignorance, video from the security cameras could be the most significant missing part of the 9/11 puzzle. 36M Lbs. of Turkey Recalled in Salmonella Outbreak Meat giant Cargill is recalling 36 million pounds of turkey after a government hunt for the source of a salmonella outbreak that has killed one person in California and sickened dozens more.
The Agriculture Department and the Minnesota-based company announced Wednesday evening that Cargill is recalling fresh and frozen ground turkey products produced at the company's Springdale, Ark., plant from Feb. 20 through Aug. 2 due to possible contamination from the strain of salmonella linked to 76 illnesses and the one death.
According to food safety attorney Bill Marler, who publishes a database of outbreak statistics, the ground turkey recall is one of the largest meat recalls ever.
All of the packages recalled include the code "Est. P-963," according to Cargill, though packages were labeled under many different brands. Many of the recalled meats are under the label Honeysuckle White. Other brands include Riverside Ground Turkey, Natural Lean Ground Turkey, Fit & Active Lean Ground Turkey, Spartan Ground Turkey and Shady Brook Farms Ground Turkey Burgers. The recall also includes ground turkey products packaged under the HEB, Safeway, Kroger, Randall's, Tom Thumb and Giant Eagle grocery store brands.

President Obama is trying to impose his will on the issue of Palestinian statehood. It is not up to Obama or any other leader to dictate what Palestinians can or cannot do. It should have been a decision made by Israeli and Palestinian people, but the governments of Great Britain, the United States and Israel want to force their will on the issue of an independent Palestinian state. To date, the decision has not in any way been conducted democratically, but coercively. The truth is, they will continue to obstruct the creation of a Palestinian state.
As more and more nation states are being overtaken by authoritarian rule, the political composition of the European Union, NATO, and the UN is shifting. The Qualas are pushing the world towards fascism. This can be seen in political movements hiding under the cover of capitalism and free markets. The neo-Nazis will be targeted in the same way terrorists are today, giving governments another enemy to fight whilst taking more and more rights from their citizens.

Report: 92 Percent of Newt Gingrich's Twitter Followers Are Fake Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has 1.3 million Twitter followers, making him the 280th most-followed person on Twitter, according to Twitter Counter. But there's just one problem. Most of them aren't even real.
Gawker claims 92 percent of Gingrich's followers are fake. Social media search company PeekYou analyzed Gingrich's list of followers to find that he actually has about 106,055 legitimate followers. But what about the other 1.1 million or so followers?
Gawker said it was told by a source that a vast majority of "[Gingrich's followers] are inactive or dummy accounts created by various 'follow agencies'" paid by his campaign. Oluf and Debra Johnson's 1,500-acre organic farm in Stearns County, Minn., has repeatedly been contaminated by nearby conventional and GMO farms since the couple started it in the 1990s. A local pesticide cooperative known as Paynesville Farmers Union (PFU), which is near the farm, has been cited at least four times for violating pesticide laws, and inadvertently causing damage to the Johnson's farm.
The first time it was realized that pesticides had drifted onto the Johnson's farm in 1998, PFU apologized, but did not agree to pay for damages. The video was taken shortly before a thunderstorm occured in the region, located in southeast Canada.
