The main geocosmic configuration in effect this week will be the new moon (with Mercury) on Tuesday, September 27, forming a cardinal T-square to the Uranus-Pluto square. As I was standing across the street with my dog, I observed a very bright green fireball fall from the sky to the south east. It fell in a completely straight trajectory and lasted about 5 seconds before it appeared to reduce to sparks/cinders. I am unsure if this was a meteor as I don't recall hearing any news releases about meteor showers for this time of year. Anyways, I thought you might be interested. Saturday updates from Nugget shooting, Street Vibratons shut down SPARKS, Nev. — One person has been killed and two others wounded in a shooting at a hotel-casino in Sparks that witnesses say involved members of rival motorcycle gangs, the Vagos and Hells Angels.
Sparks police confirmed the fatal shooting at John Ascuaga’s Nugget about 11:30 p.m. Friday but they have not identified any of the people involved.
Daniel Sharp of Stockton, Calif., told the Reno Gazette-Journal he was in the dance area at the Nugget for the Street Vibrations biker festival when a group of Vagos club members came in.
He says a single Hells Angel then entered, soon followed by several more. Within five minutes he says a fight erupted and shots rang out.
9:04 p.m. update: Street Vibrations is closing down in for the night in Reno as planned and will continue Sunday. No early closures were done Saturday night for the Reno portion of the event despite the violence in Sparks.

The movie also shows a shadowy shock wave racing away from the blast site. This is a sign that the blast produced a coronal mass ejection (CME). The CME isn't heading directly toward Earth, but it might deliver a glancing blow to our planet's magnetic field in the days ahead.

Giant squid carcasses invade Calif. coastline (CBS/AP) Giant squid - some weighing as much as 20 pounds - have been washing up on beaches in Orange County the past few days delighting (or perhaps horrifying) locals.
There are hundreds of squid carcasses washed up on beaches all over San Clemente and Oceanside.
While people walking on beaches might not be fond of stepping on the squid, or trying to dodge them, fisherman in Newport Beach couldn't be happier with their catch of the day.
"They're hauling in bagfuls of jumbo squid," reports KCBS correspondent Michele Gile.

Magnetic pole shift means new Hillsboro runway name The slowly drifting location of Earth’s magnetic north pole means the Hillsboro Airport’s main runway underwent a name change early this week — from 12/30 to 13/31.
The new numbers were painted at one end of the runway early this week as part of general maintenance, said a spokeswoman for the Port of Portland, which owns and operates the airport.
Pilots and clients of the airport were mailed notices to be on the lookout for the runway work, but the airport was never shut down, as was rumored, said spokeswoman Kama Simonds.
Runways are designated according to the points on a compass, and the changing location of true magnetic north meant the runway sometimes is renamed.
Experts say magnetic north is slipping slowly from above the Arctic Ocean in a north-northwestern direction toward Siberia, at about 34.2 miles per year. When the magnetic points were recalibrated, Hillsboro, like some other airports, had to renumber its main runway.

Russian tycoon punches fellow billionaire on TV MOSCOW (AP) — A Russian tycoon has punched a fellow billionaire on a television panel show after a discussion on the financial crisis degenerated into petty name-calling.
Alexander Lebedev, a former KGB operative and owner of two major newspapers in Britain, wrote on his blog that property developer Sergei Polonsky had earned the clobbering by behaving abusively throughout the recording of the program.
In a preview clip posted on the NTV channel's website before the show airing Sunday evening, Polonsky is seen saying that he sometimes felt like "bashing (Lebedev) in the face," prompting the newspaper owner to jump to his feet.

The study, published September 16 in the journal Science, provides the first evidence that an organism's "epigenetic" code -- an extra layer of biochemical instructions in DNA -- can evolve more quickly than the genetic code and can strongly influence biological traits.
While the study was limited to a single plant species called Arabidopsis thaliana, the equivalent of the laboratory rat of the plant world, the findings hint that the traits of other organisms, including humans, might also be dramatically influenced by biological mechanisms that scientists are just beginning to understand.
"Our study shows that it's not all in the genes," said Joseph Ecker, a professor in Salk's Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory, who led the research team. Six-ton NASA satellite to collide with Earth A six-ton weather satellite which has been out of NASA’s control since 2005 is to plunge to Earth on September 23, latest estimates show. US and Russian experts disagree over where the debris will hit.
The Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite (UARS) was launched by the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1991 and is now out of service and losing height at increasing speed.
An initial warning predicted the collision would come on September 19, but the date was later shifted.
NASA believes several metal fragments of the 10-meter-long satellite with a total weight of 532 kg will pierce the atmosphere and hit the ground, shattering along an 800-km patch.
